The following information may be helpful if you are concerned about a construction project in your neighbourhood.
Accessing your property |
During normal construction hours, Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., vehicle access to and from your property may be difficult. Driveways will be temporarily closed when work is being carried out in the immediate area. You will be notified in advance, by either the City Inspector or the Contractor. |
Dust and mud |
During construction, there will be increased levels of dust and mud throughout the project limits. The contractor is required to manage these impacts. |
Front lawn and driveway |
As part of this project, the road will be widened. Some re-grading of your lawn and driveway near the road will be needed. Any damage to your lawn, walkways and driveways will be restored. |
Garbage pick up |
Please continue to put your garbage and recycling out on the usual day. It is the contractor's responsibility to move your garbage to a location that can be easily picked up by the garbage truck and return your garbage containers. To help the contractor return your bins to you, we ask that you write your house number on your garbage cans, recycling bins and green carts. |
Road closures/lane restrictions |
Lane restrictions and short-term road closures will be in place during construction. You will still have access to your home. Flatt Road will require a short-term closure(s) to install the new watermain. This will be scheduled to be completed over the weekend. Additional information will be provided during construction. Utilities |
Disruption to your home internet or telephone service may occur. This is a concern for those working and schooling from home, the City has flagged this concern with utility companies. Our goal is to have internet disconnections repaired by the provider within 24 hours. The Contractor will typically contact the utility company, however, if you lose service, please inform your utility provider and the City, of the interruption. |
Vibration |
You may experience some minor vibration from construction equipment. As a precaution, we recommend that you remove or secure objects on shelves and walls. GPM Environmental has been contracted by KAPP Infrastructure on behalf of the City/Region to complete pre and post condition surveys of residences within the construction limits. This is a free and optional service. |
Watermain works |
This work is required to maintain the Region’s water infrastructure in a state of good repair. New fire hydrants will be installed within the road allowance as part of the watermain construction. There may be temporary periods of lower water pressure during the installation of the new watermain. Regular pressure will be restored once the new watermain is installed. There will be interruptions to your water service during construction while completing watermain connections and when transferring the houses to the new watermain. Halton Region will provide 48 hours advanced notice of all scheduled service interruptions. It may be necessary for staff to enter your property to look at your existing water system. Your permission will be requested prior to entry. Please note, all Regional staff will carry photo identification. Some watermain installation and tie-in work may be required to take place at night. |
Updates will be posted throughout the project.
